Under the Dome

Once again Stephen King (SK) has done it again. Although the book was as thick as a nursing book and the letters where i think typewritten in size10, i managed to read it for 3 straight days. Almost all SK books are soooo thick that most people do not even consider reading it. They just wait for the movie adaptation of the book. But i say... books are more cooler then their movie counter parts.

So let's talk about the life Under the Dome. One October Saturday in Chester Mill, Maine, its residents were not aware that they have been trapped under the dome and worst... they got a 2nd selectman (a politician for those who don't know what a selectman is) who prays to God Hallelujah but set up meth drug factory behind their local church and boy this selectman is ambitious. When Domesday came (as they have come to call it) Rennie (the 2nd selectman) seizes the opportunity to gain power over Chester Mill.

First few chapters of the book a poor woodchuck (some kind of a beaver) was minding his own business when he was suddenly surprised why he has been cut into half. An airplane crushed through nothing and exploded. Truck drivers crash to nothing, and as you read more of the pages the death toll inside the dome is raising.

Reading through the book, i could not help but think that Under the Dome is like SK's short story the Mist. But unlike the mist, this Dome was not a failed military project and i won't tell you who set up the dome :P Although the book annoyed me. Sometimes books spill out every mystery in its story when you read the last chapter. Yes, i always skip to the last chapter to know who died or what. But mind you, i still read through the book word for word for i still want to know how the ending came to be. But with this book, i was totally lost. I couldn't find the one mystery of who set up the dome and how they got rid of it, this book has no short cuts.

Anyway, Chester Mill is just like your ordinary town, having a nice old day, nice young man, your average cougar, the pretty prom queen, your doctor, the town drunk, the town slut, the town addict and so on and so forth. And it amazes me that SK mentioned a lot of famous NYTBS authors within the book. Even Gregory House and Lost was mentioned. I kept on waiting for Supernatural and the Winchester Boy's to be mentioned but to my disappointment, nope.

The main events that happened under the dome was actually because of the actions of the power hungry corrupt 2nd Selectman Rennie. If it weren't for him the whole town wouldn't be like that town in Silent Hill by the end of the book. Even though SK have more then a dozen characters of his book, he never failed to build up character. I guess that's the reason why the book was so darn thick with size10 fonts.

What i didn't like about this book is how SK was so detailed down to the animals when the inferno happened inside the dome. For me it was horrifying to see birds and squirrels and woodchucks specially pets like dogs and cats trying to run away from the fire, from suffocation and from the poison air only to find out that they couldn't because of an invisible dome tramped them inside. The way SK wrote the gory details made me cry because of those poor animals.

The moral of the story, (oh yes there is a moral of the story and a pretty good one) but unfortunately i won't mention it. Coz if i do, I'll be giving away information about why there was a dome and how they got rid of it. Hey, i read through that darn thick book, so you read it too without any short-cuts. I tell you, if your a fan of the genre then its worth the time. ^_^

IT meets Leland Gaunt

Yes you read it right. If Stephen King was to fuse the book IT and Needful Things this would be it. But i wouldn't be surprised coz Straub and King are good friends and as they say good friends think alike. *shrugs*

Anyhoo, the story is about 5 old men who created the Chowder Society where they meet twice a month to tell stories. When Edward Wanderley died the 4 remaining friends started to tell ghost stories. What's scary about this that the ghost in their stories came to life. It was just like IT in the S.King's novel IT. IT takes form of your worst fear... in this book it takes form of your dead relatives, dead friends and dead neighbors and it will drive you crazy.

It all started when a girl named Eva Galli came to their town 50 or so years ago. Her fiancee died after cutting his arm on a farm equipment. He bleed to death shouting words like "Kill her", "Cut her to pieces", etc. Then this girl mysteriously disappeared in town. Later in the book you would know that the Chowder Society members that time merely out from being teenagers accidentally killed her.

There are a lot of strange scenes occurring in the book. Like when Sears (one of the CSmemebers) saw a pale boy on his stairs staring at her. And how they all dreamed about themselves being chased by a monster and seeing their friend's dead faces.

I say its like Leland Gaunt at S.K's Needful Things novel is because Eva Galli is more or less like Gaunt or shall I say her kind. They introduce themselves as the originals of the human supernaturals, that they appear as to how human's persive them. At first i thought the books is one of the classic Vadic type of books coz every time they tell a story the story comes to life or the characters come to like.

Reading this book made me jumpy whenever i hear things and I have to admit kinda make me paranoid coz you will really feel as if someone is lurking behind you just like Ricky felt or like Lewis felt when he took that job in his forest.

I have never read a book that scared me, not since IT and now this is the second book that creeped me out.

Kali - Goddess of Distruction

This book was one of the books that was chosen by Orionbooks UK to republish under their collections of literally horror novels along side Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Peter Straub and four more world reknowned authors of such genra.

I have picked up this book because of the title, not knowing that Dan Simmons is a famous horror novelist along side the great Stephen King.

Song of Kali, i know the name, since i am a fanatic with mythologies, with the different Gods and Goddesses on all types of civilizations and beliefs. Kali is the Hindu Goddess of Death and Destruction. The story of the book even took place to a very interesting place in India, it is in the heart of Calcutta. One of the slum cities in India, known for its corruption, disease and misery. It was the story of Robert Luczak who was sent to Calcutta to find a famous Indian Poet who was presumed dead but now a local organization has claimed this famous Indian Poet is very much alive.

I though the book was all about supernatural, horror, something that will give you nightmares and would make you think twice in going into the city of the dark goddess. Any moment i was waiting for Kali herself to appear. But to my disappointment nothing like that happened. Instead it was all about stupidity and idiocy. There was no horror in the story. I think the only grotesque thing that happened in the pages is when Robert finally found his lost baby son only to find out that his son's body was used to smuggled jewelry out from Calcutta. Think about this scene, a local woman pretending she was holding her baby only to find out that it was only a baby's head she's holding and underneath the clothes and wrappings of the so called baby body is all illegal jewelries.

I say it was stupidity because Mr. Luczak brought along his wife and infant son along to his Calcutta assignment. I mean c'mon, Calcutta isn't a place for a vacation or for another honeymoon. He was warned by his friend but still he didn't listen and whatever disaster he has come in Calcutta is because of his stupidity.

The book is a perfect example of a western tourist being totally fooled by the local people in the city he has visited. I can't see the point on the remarks that was made about this book. NO, it was not one of the most brilliant first novels i read. and DEFINITELY NOT the best novel in years and in his genre. and TOTALLY NO horrors in the pages only pure stupidity.

Or maybe i have read too many horror and gruesome books already that this book reads like bedtime stories for kids to me.

In the end a cockroach became a senator

So i'm going through the bargain books at the 31st manila international book fair. Once again i oogled myself on books for only a dollar or less which were originally $14 or more. One of the books i found was Kockroach. It caught my attention not because of its cover but because of its title. And as i read through the brief description of the book by the back cover, I found it interesting since it did say that a cockroach woke up as a human on one of the low class hotel at time square. For a person who hates and fears cockarachas this book should be something i should not pick up, but the words gangs,violence, politics, money and sex is something that i am always drawn into.

Now, here's the yacky part. I though the book is like a metaphor. You know the word cockroach is often used to describe a human being. To may horror, the book is literary about a cockroach (the yacky icky insect that it is) waking up as a human. So I found myself reading through the first chapters about how a cockroach think, their traits and eeeewwww.. how they have sex. I have learned a few triva about this icky things... If you cut their head off they will still be alive for 3days. If there's a nuclear blast annihilating the earth they will still live. Now after this book i have learned that european cockroack likes long foreplay in sex while american cockroaches just like to hump the female right away. >.<

But here's the interesting part, as i read through the pages of the book, i have come to admire Kockroach now named, Jerry Blatta. He has became rich and famous among the streets of New York because of his buddy Mite whom found him on the streets. Mite has taught him the ways of men and as a cockroach that easyly adopt change and their greed and hunger for food and for sex (coz it was said male cockroach has only two things in mind... he is always hungry and always want to mate). So not long did Kockroach and Mite rise up into the greek gangstars. Unfortunately, Mite is a treacherous bastard. With Kockroaches ambition to be the top boss and Mite's jealousy on Kockroaching who was mating his girl, he betrayed him. Thus ended their life as top gangsters.

Now eight years has passed and Mite has come back to New York only to find out that his former friend and boss is now almost own the whole businesses in NY. From being a gangster boss, Kockroach has risen as a businessman like the likes of Trump and Bronson. Even though he knew Mite betrayed him he still took him under his wing. Although Mite promised that he won't betray him again Kockroach told him "Don't bother, we are what we are." Now this is one of the many lines i like about the book. But Kockroach still isn't satisfied about being a rich businessman. Towards the end of the book it shows that he is running for the U.S Senate which i believe he has successfully achieved and maybe if the author wrote further U.S might have a cockroach turn to human as their President.

I have come to like the book, even though its giving me the icky details of the life and times of a cockaracha. But there is a story to be told. We are what we are as Kockroach said to Mite. No body ever change somehow your true self will always peek into the world we build in and will tumble it down. No matter how we work hard and finally thinking we have it all, something will always come down and take it all away from us living us to start all over again. There is also a sense of brotherhood. I see that Kockroach is a true example of a real friend. Even though he knew that Mite betrayed him constantly he still consider him as a friend, his palsy, his brother. A lot my say his stupid by not killing him, even Mite thought Kockroach will kill him. But Kockroach accepted him as who he is and since Mite was the one who actually taught him about human society. When Mite asked him why.. Kockroach simply answered him... "I am who i am because of you."

The women of Luxe

I have been interested in this book ever since I saw it on the shelves of Bestsellers in Robinson's Galleria. Not because I have read its short description of the back of the cover but because of the gowns that the women in the covers wore. I have always called this book the Gossip Girl of the turn of 19th century New York.
When finally i have come to buy this book, I couldn't put it down. As a person who likes to socialize and host parties, I have come to love this book. Along the pages of the book you would find out that what ever era we are living the social classes in New York always acts the same.

For book one: The Luxe, enter Elizabeth Holland. The eldest among the two Holland sisters. She is fresh from Paris and just turned 18. Due to their unfortunate financial drop Elizabeth was forced to marry into money rather then love. Enter Henry Shoonemaker, son of the wealthy William Shoonmaker who almost own all of New York. However, Penelope Hayes (bestfriend of Elizabeth Holland) has eyes on Henry who surprisingly fell in love with Diana Holland, sister of Elizabeth who hasn't even turned 18 yet.
Elizabeth didn't really love Henry, in face she loved Will Keller, their coachman. So with the help of Penelope, Elizabeth staged her own death and elope to California with Will.

On to the second book: Rumors. Rumors is Elizabeth isn't really dead. Penelope thought with Elizabeth out of the picture she can have Henry, but no, Henry is head over heels with Diana. So, when she found Carolina Broad (former hand maiden of Elizabeth Holland) homeless since she was fired from the Holland House, Carolina became her source of black mail to Henry into marrying her.

Third book: Envy: Penelope successfully blacked mailed Henry into marrying her. But Henry isn't even sleeping with her nor talking to her. They have acted civilized wife and man in front of the public eyes. Meanwhile, Carolina Broad has became an overnight socialite when a rich old bachelor left her his entire estate (talk about gold digger). But this girl didn't even came to love nor care about the old bachelor, instead she went out seeking for a different young bachelor that she fell inlove with

The final showdown: Splendor. By the end of Envy, Henry sent Diana a letter stating his going off to the army. Carefree as she is she followed him. They did have time to themselves until Henry's superior found out and ship them back to New York. Meanwhile, Penelope went after a European Prince and thought the Prince actually fell inlove with her which on later on the end of the book she was dump (talk about karma) And here is the good stuff i liked about the book. Henry and Diana didn't live happily ever after. In the end they still love each other. Even though Henry has divorced Penelope, Diana still can't see herself as a second wife to Henry Shoonemaker. She wanted Henry to come with her to Paris and live a new life. Unfortunately Henry didn't love her enough to do it.

Moral of the story? Well, don't be a Penelope coz one day or another Karma will knock on your door. ^_^ I love the book, the glitz and glamour the fame and glory, the freedom to be able to host parties that the newspapers will print the next day or people that will talk about for days. To where fancy clothes... I dream of that life. Too bad I need lots of money to do that. And money is what i do not have. *sigh*

Necroscope Fever

Its Robert Ludlum meets Anne Rice, or Micheal Crichton meets Laurell Hamilton. But really, Brian Lumley wrote his Necroscope series back in the 80s. Hell, I wasn't even born yet when he wrote his first Necroscope series.

Here is book two of his Necroscope series. It tells about the origin of Thibor Ferency, the vampire who lured Boris Dragosani in book 1. If we have read the 1st book we know that both has died and that our hero, Harry Keogh (whats with the name Harry anyway? There is Harry Potter, Harry Dresdan o.0).

In this book, we also found out that aside from Dragosani, Thibor manage to place a part of his self to a certain baby. It goes like this, one night a couple came tumbling down his hills. Man died for Thibor has drank his blood through his wounds. The girl survive but Thibor grope her with his vampire tentacles.(talk about tentacle hentai lol) But this book ain't one of those porny paranormal books i usually read.

Anyway, while the 1st book is like Russian E-branch vs. British E-branch, this time the two heads of both organization works together in able to annihilate the vampire horde. Well at least what remains of it. In Lumley's Necroscope series, his vampires are not like Rice nor Hamilton's vampires. His vampires has tentacles and parasitic. The way his vampires pro-create is to plant a part of themselves into their victim and slowly that part will grow inside them and become one of the human. The human is called the host. The vampire part will consume the human mind thus creating one mind. But for Wampyre, they can only make a true wampyre once in their life time. They produce a seed that they plant into their chosen human host to be their son or daughter. Also, they are like starfishes that when you cut them up, the pieces will grow into something else until they can find a host. (talk about go forth and mulitply).

But all well that ends well, they manage to destroy both Thibor's remains in his graveyard by blasting the crucified hills. That is how the wampyre could be killed. A stake through the heart, Cut of its head and burn everything down to crisp.

Chains

Three girls have a dark past left behind just before they went for college. 15 years later, these girls still have the nightmare of the night that scared them for life.

Renee, prom queen, the perfect girl, a family which is more concern about there society preserve them. Lacey, the tall blond girl who is no closer then a bimbo became a professional photographer. Then there's the famous Sheera, who is a bestseller author.

Although the book is divided into three books focusing on each women but the book only tells one story in the perspective of these 3 female character.

I have to admit, the story line is a cliche. How many books and movies are out there with stories that started when they were in senior high and had an unfortunate event and then coming after a couple of years back to the very place the event took place. There was king's It novel, and there was Valentine movie.

Honestly, i bought the book coz i miss reading porny books. The story about Reene was quite interesting... coz she was into bdsm but not entirely into the lifestyle. That is about the more interesting sex scene of the book. The other scene is just normal sex.

I talk to dead people

I have came across this book 2yrs ago when i was searching for good paranormal books. Now i could say, aside from Anne Rice's pretty vampires and Laurel K Hamilton's gorgeous sexy vampires, Brian Lumley's vampires are a different kind of breed. Now, we all heard about what necromancer can do, they control dead people, raise dead people and ask them of thier secrets. With Lumley's book, necromancers are a disgusting lot. They literally dissect people, learn their secrets through their guts and brain. The Necroscope is more humane. They simply talk to dead people and the dead talk to him. They teach him things that they have learned through their dead life.

No on to the book. The book started when the British E-branch head dead of a heart attack which later on we know that it was not a natural cause of heart attack. You might be asking what E-branch means. The Russians call it ESPionage, with the emphasis of ESP. Its a government branch of the British, Russian, American and Chinese branch that trains people with pyschic abilities. Its like the X-men, but with more closer to truth abilities based on paranormal powers. Along the way, an age old vampire is caught between the "war" or rivalry of the British and Russian E-branches.

Somehow the book doesn't appeal to me much but I do want to buy its series though. Necroscope is like Robert Ludlum meets Laurel Hamilton meets Neil Gaiman. Also as i was reading along the way, i could not help but think that the plot of the book is somewhat more like the t.v. series HEROES. Secret organization who has supernatural powers. A person with an ability to see the future and a person who could travel time. But instead of save the cheerleader save the world, its kill the ambitious right hand russian of E-branch and save the world.

FYI: Necroscope was written and published in the 1980s. And i'm sure i would be expecting another "twilight" fever on this. People in hollywood is planning to make a movie with Necroscope. If they play there cards well and would emphasize with the love story of Harry and Brenda, choose the right actors (oh i hope they won't get that annoying sparkling vampire) they could make it a blockbuster hit. C'mon guys we all know that unknown books get to be famous if they are turned into movies.

When i hear the name Jennifer Cruise, i think a chiclit. Turns out this books isn't much of a chiclit and there was sex on pages. lol

The story started when Maddie found a crochless panties in her hubby's car and she decided to divorce him right there and then. As you read further, you'll find out that it was not the first time her hubby had an affair and she had enough of it.

Towards the end, looks like the hubby was not cheating with his wife, instead he was cheating the company he owns one quarter of. He has been cheating his business partner with money. Because of this, he got himself shot. *sigh*

Lesson learn, hubbys don't keep secrets to your wife. Keeping secret means your wife will think you are having an affair and you will end up dead.

This book, i couldn't discribe it in words. why? coz i was expecting to read a chiclit. But i ended up having a mystery book. ^^j

Angels....

^^j i thought there was divine interventions in this book. But through the middle of the book i realized the reason why the book was titled angels. Looks like, if people live in Los Angeles, they are often called "Angels".

Now, i wouldn't recommend this book if your happyly married or happily in a relationship, it will give you "what if" thoughts with your relationship. I think i bought this book when i was broken hearted and hated the thought of being in a relationship. The book started when Maggie realized that her husband was having an affair because of the comment he did on the chocolates she bought. Right there and then, she left him and went refuge to her parents house. Then later on flew to Los Angeles to spend some downtime with her best friend. There she tested new waters, and as the story is told in every page you will get to learn where her marrage started to crumble down. She had a miscarrage twice, and people are giving her thier sympathys and she had develop a self-pity attitude that she forgot that her hubby is also suffering from depression due to the lost. That drove him to have an affair. You might not agree that this is a valid reason to have an affair, but if you are depressed and someone takes notice of you and make you happy and do things for you to make you happy, an affair is not a surprise. Believe me, its not. A depressed person needs attention and loving care, again believe me, been there, done that.

Towards the end, i found maggie to be quite stupid. But i couldn't blame her, what can i say... shes a typical girl. I did fell sorry with the husband Garv. He really took care of her, he was very understanding even though he knew his wife still longs for her high school lover who disappeared on her and he thought this was the main reason that she choose to go to Los Angeles.

But in the end, they have reconciled. Understood each other. As the ending says, there is no perfect relationship. You will sometimes find your self fighting with each other. But what matters is that you remember your vows to each other. "To sickness and to health, through good times and bad, till death do us part."

Ultimate fetish to the extreme (not for minors)

I was on my way to get the new LKHamilton ABVH book when my friend told me I may like this book. Ok, its an anthology and hey... Neil Gaiman is here. So I read the back of the book and considering i have a taste of mystery,occult and the supernatural in literitures i said, heck, i'll buy this one too. Anyway, i have heard about Clive Barker and his Hellraiser but i never actually watched the movie. Maybe i did when i was a kid, i do remember watching the T.V with pinhead in it and some girl being chased by cars.

So reading through the book, I first found out that Mr.Gaiman was a journalist in his early years. So say in the forward of the book written by Mr.Barker himself. He narrated how he made the movie Hellraiser and the famous Pinhead.

Now on to the book. There are some stories that are confusing, i simply do not understand or just plane ... grusome for me. If this were a movie i would have walked out from the movie house already or turned off the T.V and gave my dvd to friends who are into human mutilations. I am into BDSM but i am not into gore, my limits are no slicing no blood. Some people would want to watch other people mutilate other people like the movie SAW, Wrong Turn, Hostel and whatever grusome movies there is out there. Ok... now imagine those movie having sex in it. That is exactly what this book has. The ultimate sex and pain that extreme Saddist and Masochists love to experience. Well for the norms they would call them Pyschopaths.

Mostly the stories revolved around one theme, the Cenobites. The beings from hell who comes into your world when you manage to complete the lemarchad configuration. These Cenobites aren't genes. They like to torment you with pain and sex feeding into your most desire fetishes. They remind me of the Vadecs, demons who posses writers into writing them and making them real in our world. In this case, the Cenobites possed Lemarchad a toy maker into building these puzzles that could summon them into our world and then take you into thier world of pain and sex.

I actually like the book, but i won't be watching any hellraiser movies, i can read gorey books, hell i read a book about an old woman eating children, what's a book about mutilations different to that. But i don't watch them on screen, i might end up loosing what i just ate. Maybe if they will turn it into anime i would watch, but not live action.

Mirror, mirror on the wall... who is fairest of all?

Twice i read this book as i have mentioned in earlier on this post. Not because i came to the point that i didn't have much money anymore to buy new books. But I somehow could relate to the queen. I have been fat and in where i am people think fat is ugly. I am vain as vain as i could be. In when i was reading this book i simply asked myself. what if i get married and have a daugther, and that daugther of mine will turn out pretty... would my vanity eat me up in will make me hate her? Coz you see, jealousy and vanity are sisters and they could kill. But then again that is only what if.... ^_^

Mina

Mina... the famous mistress of Dracula. In Bram Stoker's Dracula it was told base on the dairy of Jonathan or journal of Mina's finance and eventually became her husband nearing the end of the novel. In this Novel, it starts in the journal of Mina when they were in pursuit in destroying Dracula in his castle in Transylvania. Among the pages of this book the readers will experience the emotions of Mina.

In the middle of the story, Mina rights in her journal on how she was still haunted by the memory of Dracula. How her relationship/marrige to Jonathan has been distorted because of her desires for carnal cravings. The book solely tells what happened to Mina after where Stoker left. In her quest in learning the truth about Dracula and in the end, she made a decision a decision that is not much of a shock.

The book is an epitome of love. A love that is distorted, confused and mixed with unquinching lust.

My day at the 30th manila book fair

Last week was the 30th Manila International Book Fair. Unlike last year there weren't much people. Compared to last year that I have bought php3000 worth of books, this year due to unfortunate events I didn't spend a single piso in the fair. However, my sister asuall bought a book from readers digest which could not be purchased in any book stores here but only at A-Z direct the official distributor of Reader's Digest her in the philippines. She bought a book about paranormal thing and since it was buy one take one... we took the wild life year book as the take one free. I don't know, i think i'm becoming to be fascinated in wildlife photography. Maybe because of someone i particularly know in Africa. Anyway, back to the book fair. It is sad that not much of book enthusiast doped by the book fair. Most of the participants and guests in the book fair are either from the educational sector (teachers and students) or owners of small time bookstores to get some contacts with book distributors. Sometimes its sad to know that because of the growing demand of the digital world people would prefer ebooks other books.

Now since i was already in Mall of Asia where the book fair was held, we side track to watch the fireworks display at the baywalk of MoA, hoping it will take away my thoughts because of what happened to my laptop. That's also one thing why i wasn't very excited over the book fair. Cos it was the same day that IBM called me and said i need php85000plus to have my laptop fixed. o.0 and where the hell am i going to find that kind of money. *sigh*

anyway.... i know its not related to this book blog of mine but i'm trying to raise some funds so that i can have my lappy fix or buy a brand new one. I am a freelance photography from the side line. Serpent's Dance

Big sister, little sister. Little sister died in suicide, so says the police report. Big sister Bernadetter (Bernie to her friends) doesnt believe in it. So she was off to Arizona in finding out the truth of her sister's death. It lead her to OAR Research Company and to Wesley Edward's empire. The man whom her little sister had an affair with. Bernie slowly works her way closer to Wesley hoping to avenge or atleast know the truth about her sisters death.

This is the 3rd book i have read by larry brooks. First book was about bondage play, second was about a bunch of executives in a retreat house that are being hunted in able to feel the game of sharks in a corporate world. ROFL ain't that the truth. But yah... you know me, i'm a sucker when it comes to erotic novels specially if theres bondage concern. ;p

Again LB's style of writing is quite confusing. He introduces the main characters and inbetween chapters insert unknown characters that you would think is out of context, like they aren't even connected to the story nor the people involved in the novel. But as the pages slowly unfold, you tend to get back to those sensless chapters you think it was sensless because later on it was essential to unfolding the trueth of the story.

People who are into literature all know about the story of the Count of Monti Cristo. A story of friendship of love of betrayal and of revenge. A lot of versions of movies and books have been based upon this literary classic. Even the Japanese have adapted it to an anime set in the future which they have done very well.

For the benefit of people who doesn't know the story of the count. He was betrayed by his friends for money and corruption and was sentenced to prison for almost a decade. In prison he has befriended the person next to his jail cell and new that that person has great wealth. When that person died, he exchanged himself to the dead body and then when they threw the body out, he escaped. Meanwhile, while he was rotting in jail, his treacherous friends became a judge, politician (who married his fiancee) and a wealthy banker. In his pursuit of revenge, he slowly destroyed the empire and the lives of these friends of his that betrayed him.

In this erotic version, he has pursued to seduce his finance but concealing his real identity. This version is someone just the same as the original one. The only difference are the exotic sensual taste in the book that made me more interested in reading it.

Now i wish all classic literature have erotic versions ^_^

It always intrigue me if the book is being compared to the works of my favorite author Laurell K Hamilton. Publisher weekly has dubbed it as fans of LKH will love Sunny's Monere series. That was enough reason for me to buy the book. And it has been sitting in my closet for almost a year before I decided to read it with reasons that I have already read all the Jim Butchers and all the LKH's books that I have and I was forced to look into the books that I have brought on a sale and choose which one to read coz I don't have the money these days to buy a new book.

Anyway, The Monere... according to the book are the children of the moon which is the basis of the legends about vampires and werewolves/wereanimals. But there political/society structure is more like the bees. The Monas "thus explains the name of the main character Mona Lisa" are the queens of their race/species. In every territory there comes a queen which rules and its rare for men in there species rule a territory. In the beginning of the book, upon knowing the Monere origin, what brought to mind is the story of Sailormoon. (you know the anime: "Moon crystal power... MAKE UP!" LOL) But going deeper into the novel i started to understand and accept why most book reviewers and authors like publisher weekly has compared it to LKH. Sunny's Monere series has a touch of Anita Blake and Merrideth Gentry. Instead of vampires there are the Demon Dead. Instead of the Ravens of the unseelie queen theres the warlords.

The story is more about politics, the struggle of the monere monarchs. This is another series that is set in new orleans. This is the 2nd book of the monere series of Sunny. Too bad I couldn't find the first book tittled Mona lisa Awakening. So i hope this Manila book fair this sept i will find the the first book of this series. I really love it when i find another gold amongs a thousand of copper.

The Handmaiden's Tale

If you have read or known the classic The Brave New World. This book is more like that. Its a society totally controlled by a governing body. Since birth everyone is already classified to their social status. In the hand maiden's tale, its a story of transition to the world we know to a complete different world where men rule and control things and women are being classified with the color of clothing they wear. The wives wear blue and the hand maidens wear red.

What are the hand maidens? The hand maidens are the surrogate wives. In the event that the wive cannot conceive a child a hand maiden is required. However, it is not simple as injecting the egg and sperm of her master and mistress. The process is the hand maiden will be in between the wife and husband while they have sex, its like a three-some if you think about it. The husband doesn't mingle with the hand maiden. And if a hand maiden is pregnant she is the envy of all hand maidens.

The book is somewhat a diary of one of the hand maidens and her narration is when she remembered a society where she had a husband and a child of her own before the twisted society has been made. It is a wonderful and sad story about a culture being run by tyrant men who would want to control there women. And the women's struggle for freedom.

It is a wonderful and intriguing story that would match the literary classic of the Brave New World.

The Various

A fancy fairy tale which is unlike any grim brother or hans christian andersen has written. In this day a lot of children's fantasy novels have risen and has invaded the book shelves of our local store. Some has even found its way to the big screen.

The Various is like the little people. Some call them fairys some call them gnomes. But they are of magikal folk. They call the humans, Gorji. Which I don't know why, the author didn't elaborate.

Story goes like this, Midge was droped off by her mother on the Mill Farm owned by his uncle, her mother's brother obviously. In her stay in the farm, like any other little girl she explored the farm and met a white winged horse. No, its not your typical pegasus. This winged horse named Peg has wings like bats, not wings like birds or like angels have. Peg was trapped under a machinery, spikes pierced through his wings. Midge nursed him to health and eventually tok Peg to the Royal Woods where his home is. Its also the Various home as well. There Midge was not warmlly welcomed and thus starts the adventure of her life.

All through out the book, while i was reading it. I could not help but remember or more like a distinct image keeps on blinking/flashing inside my head. Its a famous picture where the girl had her picture taken and there were faries in it. I first saw it in my mom's books about the unknown along with the famous picture of a bigfoot. (although, this picture was declared a hoax, coz well obviously it really does looks like the little girl just cut those fairies out from her coloring book. LOL) Aside from that, the girl Midge kinds reminds me of the girl who played the role in the secret garden. The story is ok. Its your typical fairy story that a girl discovered fairies or little people are living in her uncle's farm where the woods were thick.

Over all, the novel ain't that bad. This is a trilogy and i just bought this book on bargain price. So I'm looking forward (hopefully) that i will find its other two books.

The Difference between you and me

Then there's Carla Trouse, 41 yrs old, over educated, intelligent, cynical, speaks her mind (lol sounds family isn't it.. hehe) She's jobless and her cousin Philip practically finance her life until a life altering situation turned her life around.

I bought this book simply because its on sale and the cover amused me. It reminds them of two particular sisters... hehe. anyway, the book revolves around the life in hollywood. How people play the game as Josie clearly placed. Part of josie reminds me of myself. The way she views hollywood. Clara also reminds me of myself. Broke, cynical about life, can't keep her job longer enough to be promoted coz no one actually like her honesty about corporate matters. Bottom line is, in the end, both girls have changed for the better. They learned from each other. Josie learned that socializing with people are not enough to be on top of the ladder. Clara learned that its better to shut up and then get ahead of the people and surprise them.

The book is well written not for bestseller material but it better then most on the bestseller lists. It tackles about ambition, pursuing once dream but then ended up with something far from your dreams and goals. I really didn't expect I would like the book much as I did. But its worth a read.

got the collector's edition of this book. to be honest i bought the book because of its nice packaging and in the middle of the book it got me to work on the documents that the book came with. I hope the publisher just didn't thought on putting in the document along with the book.. i hope they also included the gold and silver key that came with the documents.

If your into the de vince code thing and twilight minus the vampire and the supernatural creatures.. then this might interest you. i can bet my money to it that if this goes to the big screen it would be a block buster just like de vince code and twilight Well i say this because truth be told in where i am these books just got famous when a movie version of it came out.

Story is just simple, two brothers. There mother just died and the youngest son tried to solve the family secret. Which in the early part of the book this yougest son died. Now the elder brother is trying to solve the death of his younger brother. This took him to a treasure hunt in searching for something that eventually lead to his own love story. Yes people there is a love story in this book. Its like piecing together a story that happened centuries ago when some planet alignments happen and a crossed between time trigged the very events in the book.

Honestly, i really didn't like the book, although I enjoyed the mysteries and the historical info that the author wrote in its pages. And whoever designed the author's book has a good idea. He made the book into something inter-active coz the puzzle in the story? it came with book.. As i said it would be more fun if they include the gold and silver key to unluck all the mysteries in book.

Honestly, here's another book i picked up because i was expecting some steamy sex in its pages. However what i got is a glimpse about Hollywood and the porn industry. Chuck Palahnick is the author of the "Fight Club" which was turned movie years back starring Brad Pitt. He is also the author of "Choke" which recently turned to a movie as well. Now "Snuff", I won't be surprised if one day there will be a movie born out of it. It is described as "an absurd dark comedy about damage people..." as The Seattle Times printed. Indeed, the narrator's of the story are damaged. The story is all about a porn star who is getting old and would like to break the world record of serial fornication by having sex with 600 men on camera in an attempt to raise her career or at least give her abandoned baby a fortune. Now indeed this novel introduces damaged characters. Meet Mr.72, sort of 19 years old he claims his the abandon child of Cassie Wright the porn star. Mr.137, who is tagged as a "FAG" coz he has a sitcom before about gay gang bangs. His attempt to raise his career is why he signed up for one of the 600 men. Mr.600 is an aging porn dude as well. Which is later known as the father of the abandoned child of Ms. Wright. And there's Shiela the private assistant of Mr.Wright.

The story actually takes you to the porn world. From porn actors to hollywood actors to the information that Hitler was actually the one who invented the Blow up doll. coz he doesn't want his nazi trops to have sex with slaves while at war coz he wanted to preserve there german sperm for german eggs. ROFL. (believe me guys i checked it in google. at first its just the author making it up to make the book more interesting. But YES its true. its hitler who created the blow up dollys. LOL) There are a lot of fun facts you would learn in the book. Like Marilyn Monroe actually submered herself on ice in a tub before public appearance so that her breasts and butt will look perky. And she also purposely cut short the other heal of her shoes to make her butt sway more while she walk. I googled some of the facts that were mentioned in the book. They are all true. or atleast google lead me to sites who could back up the author on what he has written in the book.

The book might sound like it doesn't makes sense, but it does. Its full of lessons in life. One thing I do when i read books is i write down the lines that hit me hard, lines that actually makes sense or tell you the lessons in life. Like, "it only takes one mistake..., no matter how hard you work or how smart you have become you will be always be known for that one poor choice." And there's the.. "You do porn..., when you already abandoned all hope." Stories about people who made mistakes in their lives and try to redeem themselves but since because of their mistakes people tend to see there mistakes over the good once they have done. People who wanted to reach there dream and ended up to be porn stars coz they needed the money. Life isn't easy, i learned it not after i read this book. The book simply tells us that nothing is sooo perfect in hollywood. As the saying goes, no pain, no gain.

Marrying for Money

This is actually chick lit novel and i'm not really into chic flicks that much. considering my money problems these days, i wondered hey! a book about two sisters from london who are dead broke went to the u.s.a and tried to date the multi-millionere single men. One was a stock broker who seems to be married to his cellphone as is egotistic and an asshole. i seemed to like him over the softwere tycoon that ditches his date to kill some wizard in an online game.

its a great and fun book to read. you get to know how bitchy those heir to the parents business acts around. the parties they throw the things they do to get what they want and the people they step on in getting it. but in the end there are still lessons to be learned.

Well to be honest i picked up this book thinking maybe i should be marrying for money to get rid of the inherited debt i got when my mom passed away. *sigh* oh life :(

Nice book, the first book i read about serial killers. i always had a fascination with the fairy tales collected or written by the grimm brothers. and since i was pissed off in my previous company's payroll people. Until now 3months after my back pay isn't ready. i know i can't cut them and diced them up because of their stupidity. s0 i settled in reading a book about a serial killer who kills his victim based to his favorite grimm fairy tale.

I also find the killer an artist in this book. How he masterfully crafted the art of killing people then arranging them to look like people from the book covers out from the book. For example the one whom he killed and placed in the glass tower. She was a vain actor so he killed her and laid her to rest like Snow white. He doesn't kill randomly, he killed people whose life styles fit the fairy tale he will put them into. In reading this book, its quite a challenge for me its setting is in Germany the government offices that are involved in this book is in german so its hard to pronounce. but putting that aside, the book is nicely written, thrilling and i like the concept. They are lessons to be learned here specially for parents and thats...

And i found myself yet again reading another chic lit book. why i may ask myself. the answer is i read books whom i can relate too, i read paranormal books coz i like the paranormal world, and this book definitely hit me right in my head when i found it at BestSellers bookstore. A college graduate to be looking for a job after college. don't get me wrong when i graduated a job was already waiting for me and its now my current profession. in relation to the book its a story about Alexia's road in my finding a job, any job in new york so that she can be with her boyfriend. i read the book thinking i will get some few lessons in how to get your dream job, instead i learned that whatever country you are in, landing in a job that you really dreamed off has a thin line in crossing over granny goose's world. yes, its true when we apply jobs we tell a lot of bullshits just to get a job and earn money and get to buy the things we want. but yet we never asks if we really like our job.

this book is great for college students who are lost and need to find there selves in society's corporate food chain. The book tells what its like to be rejected, and how telling bullshits in job interviews and telling the truth is a lot different and that sometimes we just need to stop and think if that is what we really want in our life.

Archie? Getting Married?

OMG! I was actually going over the 2009 Comic-Con schedule and above all the activities about Marvel and DC comics turned to live action movies. Whose who are attending the comic-con. What are the line up of movies that warner and disney has for the sneak preview, one certain activity caught my attention: "ARCHIE PROPOSES TO VERONICA!" wtf? it looks like the veronica-archie-betty love triangle will finally end. According the to reports this comic is set out to be released on August 19, 2009 with 32 colored pages 'Archie #600'. A lot of archie fans have mixed reactions on this coming soon comic release. Some liked it, some wanted it should be Betty and some saying that with archie married the context of the comic will be lost. For years now Archie Comics have became part of almost everyones childhood. These teenagers in highschool going about thier teenage life. Each of the characters representing a student cliche role. And after years and years in thier student life and have them finally graduate from school. Looks like the owners of the Archie comics called upon, acclaimed superhero movie producer Michael Uslan to write this very special tale that has been branded as an Archie story of the century.

I for myself has been a fan of archies back when i was in grade school and sometime in highschool. Right now aside from collecting books i'm also into graphic novels (which btw i'm planning to include my graphic novel reviews in this blog of mine sometime in the futre.) I am still fond with the archies, like c'mon i practically grew up reading this comic. So, as i collector myself i think i'll go ahead and call my local favorite comic store and have them grab me a copy of this... Coz I'm sure any comic collector of Archie won't miss in grabbing one. I am interested on this new plot for the archie comics. A lot of question has been asked... Will the wedding push through? Is this some kind of a joke or a hoax? Or maybe within the story line something goes wrong and there will be no wedding in the end? There's only one way to find out. Yes! Fellow book worms its this time of year... *drum roll pls* The 30th Manila Book Fair.... *goo goo eyes* great discounts once again and OMG! its also the time of the year that National Book Store will go all out sale. This is my que to save money for this big event. Last year I actually blew php5000 worth of books in the book Fair and same with the all out sale in NBS. I mean I couldn't let this event let it pass. We're talking about almost 90% books and publishers direct prizes. Not to mention seminars about self publishing, writing workshop, local Book Launchings, local book signing and author appearance, Live Musical Performances, Cooking Demonstrations, and my favorite the Cosplay Competitions. I wonder if I will join this year. If I have the money I need to have my costume ready like right now. Mmmm... I have the perfect book to cosplay. Hehehehe... Anyway, its also a good place to promote this book blog of mine.

Cel, is a lunatic perse that would make his mother, andias.. look sane. And we are talking about extreme BDSM here. That sometimes Andias gets carried away that her BDSM activity turns into something that you can watch in any saw movie. Now, since the story revolves around merry and cel getting pregnant, expect a lot of sizzling fae sex in almost all the pages of the book. If Anita blake series fan complained about the recent sex marathon in its books. In the gentry series, on its first book its been sex sex sex already. WOW.. *giggles* talk about all kinds of kink, i think you can almost find it here. However, Merry has been a busy girl trying to get pregnant, shes also busy trying to defend herself. Enter Frost and Doyle, the queen's Darkness and Killing Frost. Best Ravens (queen's personal body guard). They were given to merry by the queen for her safety. Unlike any monarchy politics, there are a lot of sidhe that doesnt want her to be the next week, afraid that it will be the death of thier race if a half human half sidhe will claim the thrown. So... assasins is always at bay. Then there's her cousin who will do anything just to get the thrown. Then later in the books, Taranis, king of light and illusions and King of the seelie also wants marry to be her queen since he heard that marry was able to give back a sidhe's godly powers that they have lost millions of years ago.

Underneath all those sex, fae politics and sex again. Not only am I hooked up to the series because of its sizzling sex but also that fact that LKHamilton did a lot of research about the sidhe people. (thats celtic mythology for you) The great hunt, the nightmere, every sidhe folklore she put life into it in modern times. And just like her ABVH series, This series is I think closer to truth when it comes to celtic myths and folklores. Some might think its a waist of time, that its just all about sex. No really if you see pass the sex in the story.You could find loyalty, friendship and love in the context of its story.

I love this book, this is #2 best paranormal series in my list. #1 is her Anita Blake Series. ^_^ I am so addicted to LKHamilton that my lick of frost book copy is a collector's edition. Well almost all my LKHamilton's are 1st editions. What's so special with Lick of Frost is that my copy is autographed by LKHamilton herself. *sighs dreamyly*

The next installment of the series will be coming out in November. For now the series is in its 7th volume, 8th including the one to be release in november.

Son of the Witch

After 10 years from GMaguire's Wicked novel about the life and times of the wicked witch of the west, comes the sequel on what became of Oz after Elphaba died in the hands of dorothy and the wizard has gone back to his world. In this book, Leir, the Son of Elphaba (well he isn't much sure if he is just yet) has gone to a journy to find his childhood friend which is his half sister. Also in the setting of this book, Glinda the good witch is stepping down as the matriarch of Oz and is in search for a new emperor for Oz.

The story started on where Wicked ended. Upon the death of Elphaba Lir went in search for his half sister whom took him to Oz and the convent of St. Galinda. The exact convent where elphaba gave birth to him and where she took refuge when she felt lost to herself. Along the journey he met a girl and the scarecrow and the brother of Elphaba. He even seek audience with Glinda in asking for the whereabouts of his half sister. In his meeting with Galinda, it is indeed shown in this scene on how Glinda valued Elphaba as her friend. By the sight of elphaba's hat and broom she became emotional and demanded where Lier got it. There in that conversation she believed that leir is her friend's son and decided to help him search for his half sister. As she said and i qoute "its the least i can do for her" refering to elphaba.

Political struggle between neighboring towns and religious differences had become quite rampat when the wizard was kick out from Oz by Glinda. Animals are still forced to live in hiding or became slaves. Lier became the symbol or image of the Animals which elphaba tried to establish. If the first book shows on how Elphaba was fighting for a cause on her own. In this 2nd installment it shows how people thought about her and how many people and Animals believed in her cause. In this Lier took advantage of his connection to elphaba in able to search for her half sister. Also, whenever Lier meet people who are allies of elphaba, they seem to treat Lier as if he is carrying on the legacy of what Elphaba was fighting for.

I could not really pin point what the lesson learned in this novel. But for me it makes sense since i read wicked. This is the time where unexpected people gets to be in an unexpected positions. It is about fighting back and carrying a legacy of a person who was branded to be wicked. Its sooo much true in reality... sometimes you have to die in a tragic death in able for people to see what you were trying to do. The book ended with a graffiti on a wall stating "Elphaba Lives". I hope it simply means Elphaba left a legacy in terms on what she was trying to fight for. Not like in the musical where she actually staged her death. That would really turn me off on this series. I like it the way it is. I think in this series the line from dark knight movie is very true "Its either you die a hero or live long enough to be the villain." In this case, elphaba live long enough to be the villain.

GM Wicked series is one of the best series I have ever read. I would highly recommend people to read this. ^_^ A good book for high school students to make it as their book report in their literature class.

This book has been with me for almost a year now and I just read it coz I don't have any more books to read and I've been cutting back with my expenses. *sigh* Anyway, I have been eying this vampire series ever since i'v seen it beside LKHamilton's Anita Blake Series in the book shielves of my favorate bookstore which is BESTSELLERS - Robinsons Galeria (They have friendly staffs there compared to other bookstores). Usually the cover of the book will be the reason why I pick the book up and then the over view written at the back will determine if the book is worth a read, worth the money or its just plain crap. This series has been around before twilight is, and I have to say Bank's vampires are unique and it won't make Stoker roll in his grave laughing or cry in his grave... ROFL, well I think you know what I mean.^_^

So, enter Damali.. Vampire huntress... known as the Neteru. A Neteru is only born once in a millienia. He or she is the champion of heaven to battle the forces of evil/darkness. Marlene, here adapted mother took care of her and trained her when the time comes when she will be a fully grown Neteru. Banks, vampires as I mentioned is unique, he made them the generals of the dark lord which si lucifer and placed them on the last canto of hell (according to dante's hell). They are the most highest ranking creatures in hell and they are not a pretty vampire like lestat or Jean-claude when they transform into their real figure. They are demon like or something. Like Stoker's Dracula crossed to the nesferato. However, even if this falls to the "OMG! not another vampire novel series." I still like this coz Banks created a whole new breed and vampire politics and life style. Like incorporating vampire concepts with gangwars, mafias, triAds, yakuzas and the like. And they are not all that bad, they actually work to balance between light and darkness (banks doesnt use the term good vrs. evil).

But i only have one complain in the book and its not related to the story line. Its the way Banks wright the book. As an african american writer living in an african american community she uses slang words that is popular with the african american culture. Not all people could understand those slangs. When I was reading the book its like i'm watching a movie created by people from the bronks or the hood. And to be honest it annoys me. Really, coz its hard to analize her story line and then struggle to understand the words. And I think that's the reason why her book doesn't get to be #1 NYtimes bestseller because of that. Almost all vampire series gets to be number one one time or the other but with this series I think that's the series.

After reading this book which is the first book of Bank's Vamp Huntress series which is now running 12books in all and another book in the works which is supposbly the last of its series and a comic adaptation by Debel brothers under Marvel same with Anita Blake series. I categories her book as a good read. Nice new concept with vampires that still stay within vampire norm. But i'll stick in buying 2nd hand books with this series. I don't see it yet that its worth my money to spend on its new ones.

note: damali's comic adaptation kinda look like Anita with bronze skin.. lol well it makes sense since its Brett Booth who is doing the art work and every AVH series fans know that it was BB who first drew the Anita comic under debel brothers.

Where and what would the gods be in this time and age?

Gods behaving badly is someone corny and cliche for someone like me. Its a story about the Olympian gods fallen from mt. olympius and losing their powers ever since Christianity is born in earth. Although these gods still have little power to be able to do their functions. Yes, unfortunately even after humans/mortals stopped believing in them and replaced them with Christianity they still try to do the jobs that they were born to do.

Take aphroditte, the goddes of love and beauty... now working as a phone sex operator. And there is Artimes who is now a proffesional dog walker. Apollo a t.v. pyschic and so on and so forth. The story is about these greek gods forced to live in a shabby house in london. Artimes hired a cleaner which apollo fell inlove with and he was turned down by this mortal. Knowing apollo, he coaxed zues to kill alice "the cleaner". Eventually everything turned worst to bad when apollo wanted to prove his god hood to neil the boyfriend-to-be of alice. In the process in proving his the god of sun, he manage to turn the sun off and put himself into a coma bringing the earth into darkness and would freeze earth to an end. Now its up for niel to be the hero to save the world.

The book is somewhat corny as i mentioned above. however it is rather funny and amusing if you are looking for something to read to let time pass you by. Its a good thing this book only cost around php200 coz its just really worth its price. The concept of the story is rather obvious, while these greek gods thought that they are getting old and with it getting weak and losing their powers... The real reason why it is happening is because mortals have stoped believing in them. A lot of fiction books has the same context. Gods loosing their godhood because nobody is worshipping them anymore.

So i wonder, with the rising of the wiccan religion that would mean that some people are starting to believe in the gods of the old worlds and actually starting worshipping them, could it be that a couple of years from now the gods of the old days will once again be powerful enough to claim what was rightfully theres in the first place before christianity robbed them from thier thrones?

I have been a fan of Neil Gaiman for quite sometime now. Everybody knows his the creator of the The Endless Siblings and of Dream and his sexy lovely sister Death. In this book of his titled "NEVERWHERE". Its like Alice meets Dorothy. Enter Richard Mayhew, ordinary office man in london who has a fiance which only thinks for herself and for her sucess. One day Richard saved a mysterious girl which it changed his life completely. Now why do some reviews say that NEVERWHERE is like Alice in Wonderland with NG style. First its because Door the mysterious girl is like the white rabbit whom Richard found and followed through out the story. The London Below setting is more like Wonderland because it is inhabited by interesting incentrict people, being the Earl's Court as the white queen and Ishlington as the red queen.. "OFF WITH THIER HEAD". Mr. Croup and Mr. Valdimore could be Twildy and Twildum. LOL. Now why Dorothy in wizard of OZ. It's because Richard seems to be lost in the city underneath London which looks like a complete different world. In his quest to find his way home, he and door and hunter and the Marque de Carabas.. took up a task from Inshlington. so its like the angel is the wizard and Richard and his friends are like dorothy and the lion the scarecrow and the tin man. Besides in the book there are joke lines such as.. "yes and he can give u a brain and me a heart." lol

So anyway, the book is interesting. I had this book since last year but I just set it aside coz I proiritized in reading my paranormal porn books first. Especially if there's a new LKHamilton book out in the market. Going back to the book, as I read its pages, it tells you about friendship, accepting your life and what life is offering you and sacrificing everything for something you most want to do. The book doesn't really makes sense but in a context makes sense. lol now i'm the one who is not making sense. Anyway... just like any NG novels this is interesting and quite amusing. Also like any novels of NG, NEVERWHERE also have a graphic novel version. There is a TV series already aired in BBC back in 1996 and the DVD is out aswell. But in NG's twitter account he has mentioned that a movie of NEVERWHERE is in planning along with his other books.

Skin Trade

It has been a year for me that I have waited for this book. Finally it was out and I needed to wait further for my payday in able to buy the book but... It was worth the wait.

Skin Trade, 17th novel of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake Series. I am a bit disappointed, Micah was not in the book. That's like 2 succeeding books without my favorite NimeRaj "wereleopard king" When I was reading this book, it took me back to Obsidian Butterfly. Why? with reasons that Edward was there, Olaf and Bernardo and it didn't happen in st. Louis, it happened outside state like in Obsidian Butterfly.

Now we all know that Vittorio is back in this book, with a vengence. He mailed the head of the local executioner of Las Vegas to Anita, so she flew to Vegas with out even talking to Jean-claude. It is nice for a change that Richard isn't mentioned in this book. Good ridding, his becaming a pain in the ass for both JC and AB anyway. But a lot of interesting revelation has been uncovered in this book. For example, Marmee Noir, a.k.a mommy dearist was a necromancer before she became a vampire. I did not add shapeshifter coz we already know that in the previous books. Also Vittorio isn't really Vittorio his name was Father Day or Father of the Tigers. Apparantly in the book it hinted that Vittorio and Marmee has some pass and eventually their greed of power has became the reason the two of them has turned agianst each other. This time Skin Trade is not full of sex and sex in almost all pages and no more crime solving thing as compared to the middle books of this series which most fans back when this series started actaully hated. Skin Trade looks like it revive the essence of the series from the very beginning. Murder investigations, police work and a lot less of the vampire politics. But the sex is still there in the later part. hehe.

LKH hasn't disappointed me yet in her ABVH novels. I'm still going to collect them all and read them all. Its unlike any vampire books I have read. Not to mention, its the only vamp series I know where vampires and other preternatural creatures are legal citizins of the world. For me nothing could beat the ABVH series. I hope the TV series that they are making will not a disappointment. But I believe LKH's desision on that. I mean look at the marvel version of ABVH, it is word for word with the book. I hope it will be the same in the TV series.

Jim Butcher's Dresden Files

Another quest of mine in searching more paranormal novels brought me to the series of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. I just learned about this series a year ago and that time the book already had a TV series under Sci-fi channel and right now already have graphic novel under Marvel same as Anita Blake with LKH. I first learned about this in shelfari.com its an online social networking of book worms like me. It brought me to the book Death Mask, little did I know its the 5th book of the series.

Oh yes, he is for real, well atleast in the book that is. This is not a vampire novel. Its more like a wizard novel. Harry Dreden, wizard for hire in chicago and also a consultant in chicago PD when things go wrong or unsolved with normal police investigations. At first the book started with a typical wizard who has gone wild and corrupted in his power. Harry's mother died in his birth and his father died when he was i think 7. Since then he has been taken cared for his uncle whom he killed with dark magic for self defence but still the White councel of wizards placed him in a hot seat with that act. As the story goes, his life begins to be complicated, he has dealt with fairies and ogres and even caused "as the white council claimed" the war between the vampires and the council. Unlike LKH's world with AB. JB's HD world is set in our world where the supernatural or paranormal only exists in the minds of the people and that if you claim you saw the boogyman, you will find yourself straped to a white leather jacket and thrown into an asylum.

One thing why I started collecting this series coz its different from other paranormal series and I just love the witty smart ass Harry even in the brink of danger. Also I love his perverted skull friend Bob. Bob is a hundreds year old skull, he is like a talking gremoir. He was a powerful wizard in his time and his soul was forever cursed trapped in his skull. And besides Jim Butcher actually mentioned LKH in his own website for her help in making his novels into bestsellers as well. Yah i know i am baised whenever LKH is involve. But I mean if LKH seems to like this author I would try to read him, and it just so happens I liked the way he writes.

Besides, Harry Dresden isn't your cliche wizard, his somewhat a modern day wizard.

Vladimir Nabokov, author of the novel LOLITA, where the lolita complex has originated. In my search for the book lolita i have stumbled to this book. I have to admit I bought the book because it is written by VN and the reason that the book intrigue me when i read the back sumary is just secondary.

In some books that I read, the first 2 - 3 chapters already gives me the insight on what the book really is. But for this one, it took me to the half of the book until I realize what the book is trying to tell its reader. It was not until M'sieur Pierre's appearance in the book that I started to realize that the book in a whole is an irony or a parable of our human sociaty.

Here is Cincinnatus C. put to jail and sentence to death of dicapitation because he doesn't blend well in his sociaty. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Reading further into the book, you would realize that the annoying director of the jail Rodrig, projects the ruling government of a sociaty where they strive to put on a positive face to the public but in reality they only have some selfish aganda brewing in thier minds. Rodion the jailer on the other hand is the type of people where we call them "kiss asses people". People who suck up to superiors in able to get high enough to the corporate world and gain fame and fortune. Emmie the daugther of Rodrig, which VN actually called the cousin of lolita, projects the infidelities, lust and playfulness of humans. Here she acts as a carefree girl playing in the jail cells and visiting Cincinnatus in his jail cell. Later on in the book, she throws herself to him and asking him for marrage. However, in the appearance of M'sieur Pierre who is really the executioner of Cincinnatus who poses as his fellow jail mate and friend, this is where everything made sense to me. M'sieur Pierre visits him everyday bringing all kinds of family pictures of his, playing chess with him or simply just having a cup of tea of Cincinnatus. MP is the very epotime of a person in our lives who claims to be our friend but then will betray us, or for this matter the ones who beheaded us without us knowing. He talks about certain things in life. One thing is when he talked about death. That Death itself should not be feared or something like that. That he even finds it an honor to be the one to beheaded Cincinnatus. There are alot of things that M'sieur Pierre talks about with Cincinnatus which I find it appealing couse he actually makes sense in terms of how he see/persive the world entairly.

In the end upon the execution of Cincinnatus in the court yard everyone is present. When the axe finally falls down his neck, everything vanishes. Its as if Cincinnatus just dreamed about the whole thing. I have to admit if it weren't for lines of wisdom and truth within the context of the book I would brand the book a complete nonsence and a complete waste of time.

The Vampire Queen's Servant

Three words... WOW!

This is the most romantic vampire novel I have ever read. And considering my track record in collecting and reading vampire novels (I think I have read more than a dozen's dozens of them). I self proclaim that I am qualified to say so that THIS IS INDEED THE MOST ROMANTIC VAMPIRE NOVEL. Also I have to admit ABVH isn't this romantic. And please *rolls eyes* don't even mention twilight for me coz that is such a common childish romance. Vampirism is just an added spice to it. You can atually find the same romantic context in other non-vampire novels.

Vampire Queen Lady Elyssa Amaterasu Yamato Wentworth is a thousand year old vampire one of the last old blood lines of the royal family of vampires. Vampire hubby Rex just died and her monk of a human servant recently died due to illness. But her precious servant didn't die before training and sending his last gift to his mistress.

Enter Jacob, ever gorgeous stunning hunk, trained to be the perfect servant for lady Elyssa. I don't know if its true love or serendipity. But Jacob endures the torments and humiliation that Lady Elyssa makes him do even though his fighting with his own self for he has the personality of an alpha male. She pushes him away afraid to loose another human servant and that she won't be able to endure another lost. So she goes on torturing him and doing things enable for him to walk away from her. One morning Jacob nearly did walk away but came to a realization that he is drawn to the lady Elyssa more than carnal cravings nor love, that his mere existence is to take care of her. He knew it the moment he saw her for the first time when he was still a vampire slayer together with his brother.

Aside from the story revolving around the sexual hunger and blood lust of vampires and their relationships with their human servants. The book also tells Lady Elyssa's struggle of keeping her status/power in the vampire political structure. Upon the death of Rex her husband, the vampire council has been pressuring her in remarrying. In the long run you would notice in the story how she put a strong alpha female facade which in fact she is now suffering of a blood diseases that has been killing most vampires already and its slowly killing her. Its also the very same reason why her previous human servant sent Jacob to her coz he knew about his mistress condition even though she kept it from him. She hides it from the council for if it goes out it will be an opportunity for her opponents to use it as a disadvantage to other throw her from her current status.

The book ends when Lady Elyssa showed her true vampire form to Jacob hoping that he will turn back and bail out from her. But all he did was accept her whole heartedly. The story doesn't end there however this book has a sequel "The Mark of the Vampire Queen" Unfortunately I can't find its sequel to any bookstores here locally nor in ebay.. T.T I can't aford buying it in amazon or in Barnes and nobles coz to ship it here in the Philippines will cost more than the book. >.<

The book is an excellent example about the saying "People do crazy things when they are in love." I mean where do u find a man who will drop everything, change his career and train himself on how to care for you and even accepts you even if you keep on shoving him away specially even after seeing the monster in you... literally.

I bet in this day and age no such man exists anymore.. and if I do stand corrected it will be one in a billion.

SWAGBELLY: A novel for Today's Gentleman...

So you might be asking why a girl like me read this book, if it said its a novel for today's gentleman. First i got intrigue with the cover art... mmm a smooth yellow banana print on a black book. I got it from the shelf and read the back cover. Interesting, a book about a life of a pornographer, publisher of an adult magazine titled Swagbelly.i searched for the book in ebay and got it for p180 over p620 price in the bookstore. Fair deal. Love ebay.

I bought the book thinking i might read some erotic scenes, love play and such. But as i flip the pages its more than a porno book. As mentioned, story is about a multi-millionaire guy named elliot who is a jew and is a pornographer publishing Swagbelly (originally a pirate word, meaning Fat with plunder). Story starts in his two-bedroom apartment, a year after his divorce and moving out from a million dollar town house thats now with his wife. Wife is living rich with a $10million divorce settlement and $15million plus child support for their 13 yr old son. I find the wife an ungrateful bitch to think she was just a secretary when she met elliot... and i find elliot and idiot for marrying a person who just sued him for sexual harassment. The story takes us deeper how millionaire socialites spend there money, how they can easily buy themselves through each situation, how people attach themselves like leches to them hoping they can get a little bit of the money. A man thinking that women tend to flock to them because of their good looks. A man maturing realizing that the women flock to him because of his networth not with his looks. A man realizing with over $100 million he feels lonely lost and disturbed for loosing his wife to her mountain climbing instructor which he paid for. His son hating him and converting to a different religion. Moral of the story is simple, "Money can't buy everything."

Near the end of the book, Elliot's current girlfriend/fling or whatever since he fucks and dates almost all the models posing in his magazine, breaks the news that she might be pregnant. Ofcors Elltiot acted like any man asking questions if its his or could be somebody else considering her work, she denys it and says his the only one. He sends her to his private doctor for a "so called accidental abortion" but couldn't help get guilty by it so he stormed into the clinic to stop it. In the end his son wasn't really converted into a christian since he made a scene and woke up in a hospital with tubes attached to himself, his wife saying he needs a bypass.

A wonderful nice story full of life lessons. But really I would still wish i have his fortune, I mean it has been proven if your successfully rich in life you family/love life really sucks. And if you are having a nice family/love life you are just either a middle class in sociaty or poor.

Aisling Grey Guardian Series

I open my closet of books you will find 90% paranormal genre most about vampires. Sometimes when i see another series about vampires i roll my eyes and tell myself... "Oh great, not another vampire series." There are only two authors i consider as great vampire series authors... Anne Rice whom started it all and Laurell Hamilton who is the reason why i ditch the British vampy over a french vampy. But i still hunt for paranormal books.. specially porn ones. *giggles* Anyway... one of my hunts lead me to a guardian, a wyvern's (thats dragon leader to u mundane people) mate and demon lord whom eventually became one of the prince of Abaddon (thats hell for u mortals... ^_^)

You Slay Me... Is the title of the first book in the series. Series started when she takes up work for her uncle to deliver a rare antique to paris. There her view in world has change and she suddenly find herself in the otherworld sociaty. You know the world where humans think are just make believe. She met a dragon named Drake who stole the thingy that she suppose to deliver. She find herself as a murder suspect and police is carefully watching her. So in her pursuit of clearing her name, She met a mysterious Taxi driver and summoned an annoyingly funny demon which was cast out from his legion when he pulled a prank on his demon lord.

In the next book, Fire Me Up. Aisling went to Budapest to kill two birds in one stone. After begging her uncle to have her job back she's off to Budapest to join GODTAM... Guardians Oracles Diviners Convention for her search for a mentor so that she can be a full pledge guardian. And oh did i mention that Drake the green dragon's wyvern has claimed her as his mate which she constant rejects even if she knows shes head over hills to the lusty green eyed dragon. Here they meet again and stayed in the same hotel, fortunately Drake is here for the summit. For the Dragon Summit so all four wyvern are there. Its in this book she first meet Gabriel the wyvern of the silver dragon and Chuen ren the wyvern of the red dragon. In this book Aisling is being accused of murder... again. The council of the otherworld has turn their attention to Aisling since all people who found dead in there hotel rooms are guardians whom she was suppose to meet for an interview of mentor ship. And now with the conference and the dragon summit that she needs to attend (for she finally accepted the fact that shes Drake's mate) She also need to solve the murders of the guardians and deliver an amulet for his uncle to a hermit and dodge the incubus which is infesting her bedroom every night molesting her.

The story doesnt end there. Third book is "Light Me Up". Is when Aisling moved to London to live with her mentor Nora. This is where Hell break loose, litteraly. Dragon war has erupted again with the green and red dragons. Aisling become a prince of abaddon when Bael tricked her into banishing the lord Arion and now she inherited the x-demon lord/prince legion of demons and his trusted assistant Traci. All in all with the confusion everyone around her thinks shes pregnant and everywhere she goes shes prone into accidents or there maybe a hitman is on her tail.

And Finally in its last installment of the Aisling Grey Series... "Holy SmokeS" shes finally getting married to Drake. Unfortunately Drake wasn't able to attend his own wedding coz he was being detained in jail. When it was rescheduled it was Aisling's turn who wasn't able to attend the wedding this time coz she was randomly banished into abaddon when a passing guardian came across her while shopping for a new wedding gown. Seems like the wedding has been delayed coz its either Drake is kidnapped somewhere or Aisling is stuck in abaddon. But like all fairy tale with dragons and demons the story finally ended with the two of them finally getting married on a recently bombed church.

All in all, the book is hilarious and wittingly fun. All through out the book iv been laughing my heart out specially if jim(the demon dog) opens his mouth and cracks a wittingly comments on every situation. The seiries has a bit of a chic flick aura with paranormal touches and an orgasmic porny scenes that consist of a large pool like jacuzzi.

Try it and you'll laugh your heart out. There's no boring pages.. I finished all for books in 2days, i couldnt put it down. ^_^

Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series

ABVH has been around for more than a decade already. Most reviews on it has been compared to Buffy the vampire slayer. But Anita is far more than Buffy. Shes a kick ass cynical girl. I think thats the reason why i like her bec she doesn't take crap with anyone and definitely doesn't kiss asses.

Series Started with GUILTY PLEASURES. The book tells how JEAN-CLAUDE raise to power as the new master of the city of St. Louis MO. How he placed the 1st and 2nd mark to Anita to make her his human servant. A Human Servant is the eye and ears of the vampire when the vampire is asleep at day. Well by the word SERVANT i believe you already know what that means. The servant make sures the master he/she serves will be taken cared of. its like having a private secretary in the same time having an elf like santa's little helpers. lol. But Anita doesnt really want to be JC's Human servant so she constantly denys his claim, GP is already released as a graphic novel under the debel brothers which is now under MARVEL.

The next book in the series is LAUGHING CORPSE. Theres nothing much in this book. Only that you tend to know more about our heroin in the series. How she came into her necromantic powers, how she got the job in Animator's Inc. And a touch of voodoo magic is in the story. CIRCUS OF THE DAMN is something you need not to miss in the series. Here, you will learned about more in vampire politics and the Vampire Council. The council is composed by 12 individuals. One of this individual is Oscar other wise known as the Earth mover. WEll bec his power can move the earth, can cause tremors on the very ground your standing. He challenges JC and offered ANita to get rid of JC in exchange that she herself will be free from his bounds. She nearly betrayed JC in this book. It is also in this book where we will meet Richard for the first time. Which eventually you will find out to be an emotional unstable werewolf.

Next book is LUNATIC CAFE. Here we get to know the local wolf pack of st. louis. And the ever wicked sexy Rianna, the werewolf LUPA... in plain english... werewolf queen to Marius's Ulfric "king". Also we get to know Gabriel the ever sadistic nimni-raj "wereleopard king" and star of Rainna's wickedly sex videos.

Bare with me everyone, This series has "atm" 16 books and the 17th book is scheduled to be release in June2009.

BLOODY BONES and BLUE MOON are books which is set outside St. Louis.

The book after it is the KILLING DANCE. Its where Anita first saw Richard turn into a werewolf right above her and she was forced to accept the 3rd mark to save both JC and Richard. Its also in this book that Anita ran away from Richard when she saw him eat the former ulfric and took the throne for himself. She ran away from him to the arms of JC for comfort thus beginning her dating the master vampire and accepting him in her life.

The next book BURNT OFFERINGS is a struggle of power and the test by the council to JC's teretory and power. They were visited by two vampire council member. PAdma "the BEast master" since he can control any wereanimal that existed. And Traviler coz he can transfer his soul "if vampires have soul" to any being. Here they have invaded JC's daytime resting place and held hostage all his people. So its in this book were Anita need to give a good show to the council that she is a good human servant. This is also when you gets to know more about vampire politics and the vampire council members.

OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY is a book sit in New Mexico and JC and Richard is out of the picture in this book. The only male alpha in this book is EDWARD (NO! his not a vampire and his more than a kick ass male alpha than pathitic emo Edward in twilight). EDWARD the oh so sexy bounty hunter... and cruel if i may add. He kills without mercy. He's a bounty hunter for hire once he was hired to kill humans. But lately humans has bored him so he hunted wereanimals or vampires or anything that goes bumpy in the night. Both he and anita might not admit it but they are sure is a match made from hell. not in the since of love if i may point that out. oh wait, edward did said in this book that anita is his soulmate. lol and she didnt went gogo eyes on him, thats what i like about her. This book is one of my favorites in the series.

The next following books - NARCISUS IN CHAINS, CERELIAN SINS,INCUBUS DREAMS are the reason why some readers of the searies have stopped reading the series. Well for me it gave me more reasons in collecting the series. Its because of the sizzling sex with vampires and with the wereanimals. Some found it sickening I on the other hand find it... no words can describe it i just cant stop giggling and oggling over it. There were less murder scenes in this book and has centered into stablishing Anita's relationship with the vampires and how her power and JC's power is growing increasing. CS we meet Belle Morte through her servant and by the end of the book JC is already declared his own fountain head. Meaning he has his own blood line now no longer known under the blood line of Belle morte.

with all the many men of Anita's men Micah the ever perfect boyfriend of Anita got to have a novel of his own. Much to many disapointments the book didnt really showed the reader about Micha's mysterious past. Only that he is a sole survivor of a wereleopard attack.

DANSE MACABRE is the 13th book in the series. Its the first time in the series that 3 master vampires from other city will visit St. Luois for a grand ballet. Here we met the Master vamper of Chicago which will play a major role in the up coming book in june2009 tittled "SKin Trade".

In THE HARLIQUIN we know more about Marmee Noir "mother of all darkness" Here it is known that she is nearly awake from her thousand years sleep in the darkness. No one really knows if she wants Anita for herself or if she wants her eliminated after all it was Marmee Noir who declared a decree on death on all necromancers in her time.

Lastly but not the last... BLOOD NOIR is a full novel story set in North Carolinia in the city of JAson. Our well loved werewolf, pom de sang of JC. inshort... his the master's food. Here we look into the life and times of Jason the werewolf. It also brings an over view on what will be the next big thing in the next book. As you can see, in this book Marmee Noir is starting to control anita's hunger of sex "the adhoir" (i dont know if i got the spell right ^_^)

I have never been sooo addicted to an author before that i actually bought all her books even the anthologies. I also collect her Merry Gentry Series but thats for another blog coz this is going too long already. AS i was saying, even though i already have her books and the comic version of GP and LC are like mirrors of each other i still cant help myself in buying them and collecting them. So yes.. im an LKH fanatic. LKH is actually the 2nd author i knew about in writing vampires. And oh no her vampires are not the Anne Rice vampires nor Bram stoker's dracula. In her world Vampires and all other supernatural/paranormal creatures have rights and actually own businesses in the city. They have human servants and animal to call. in this case JC's animal to call is werewolves. With all vampire novels sprouting in the market i still say LKH vamps are the best. SOon if everything goes smoothly a t.v.s series will be aired soon under MGM productions. There are talks about making it into a movie. But i dont know about it, I mean Anne Rice got famous bec of interview of the vampire and Stephanie Meyer became an over night sansation bec of her twilight movie. Well with Anne Rice i read her books after i saw the movie. With twilight i remember being amazed of its wonderful cover but then returned it to the book shelf while rolling my eyes saying "oh god not another vampire cliche" well as a friend told me who bought the books for the sake of the pretty cover.. "dont bother reading it, you'l just get annoyed.. its like your reading an ANita wannabe..." LoL So i would still say ANITA BLAKE still kicks ass on all those vamp novels out there. ^_^

"of Deceit, of Treachery and of Conspiracy." The Dante Trap written by the french author Arnaud Delalande and translated to english by Frank Wynne. A marvelous book set in the 17th century Venice which is the hights of its power and prestige. A man who is known as Chimera or il Diavolo led a satanic sect to over through the doge of Venice and its council of ten the governing body of venice. Indeed this book is poetically written (no pun intended) whose murders has been base from the famous Florence poet Dante (obviously stated in the tittle of the book >.<) The book takes us to how men is driven by lust and power, how politics makes a madman, why people succumb to treachery and deceit. In the first part of the book Pietro otherwise known as the Black orchid who has incarcerated due to seducing anna santamaria wife of a senator octavvio (see how powerful men can just throw someone to prison bec of personal vanditas?), has been given parole by the doge to invistigate the death of a famous actor Marcellio Terrovino who is later known as an agent of the serene republic of venice. As the story unfolds it takes you to the dark recess of a satanic cult who worships the il diavolo. Friends betraying friends just to gain control of the queen sea of the orient (which is venice for its open ports has been famous in trade and industry and merchants has flocked its way into venice). Little did the doge and the black orchid knows that the satanic cult killings and dante's passages that were written across the walls or the body of the victims were just distraction to the true plan of the il diavolo which is to murder the doge (prince of venice) and to cover up a conspiracy of deceit, treachery and power.

Although this book is set on the 17th century its story has been told over and over again through out history and even until now. One of il diavolo's henchman is Minos other wise known as Andreas Vicario which is a member of the Maggior Consiglo owns a librira full of demonology books of reference and other gothic and paganism text. He himself has written a book concerning the problem of evil. Although it is not new to me for the said topic has been a topic in my religious studies back in college (and "NO" i did not graduate in theology. it is the fate of students who studies in a Jesuit university. we were required to take up 14units of religious studies.) It is clearly discussed that man is ambivalent which are both good and evil. And that good always triumph evil is because evil itself betrays evil. in short "Trust no one for its used or to be used in the chess game of life."

Why i call it an great book? Is because it is well written, well versed and will researched. when i read through the pages its like i have transported back in time to witness every event in the book that takes place, thats how the author is very detailed in each event, in each place and in each murder. The murder scene are highly grotesque, as it depicted how people are being punished in hell according to their sins. I enjoyed the scene of the Carnaval. for i love a festivity of customes and mask. I wish such festivity is celebrated here in my country, which is famously known in europe now a days as the feast of fools. Celebrated on april 1st (although in the book it celebrated in the feast of the assecion from oct 1st to the middle of december.) A day when everyone gets to dress up to be kings and queens even if their not. ^_^

This book is great and if i were still in highschool, i would have chosen this book as my book report coz for me it can compare to those famous classic novels of all time. ^_^

i wasnt really planning to buy this book but reading the tittle from the bookshelves of Bestsellers a month ago, it caught my attention. The cover art was interesting as well. The author is unknown for as i read its summary from behind i found it this is the author's debut novel. Ah the ninth circle, the title has me interested it has a ring of Dante's inferno. The very poem of which countless novels/stories/movies has sprouted from. the most detailed account on what Hell might look like and how every sinner is being punished. Ah the very book i asked my mom to buy it for me and she gladly did for before i wouldnt even touch a book let alone read it. After reading it i have developed some fixation about everything that is written there
Anyway.. going back to this book... reading the back cover the story is about a man who woke up not knowing who he was.. no idea where he is and why in short he woke up on a pool of his blood having an amnesia. The writing on the back of the book promises a dark and morbid past to the main character of the book and for that it made me more interested by the book. But as i saw the price it was rather expensive but the book was calling me saying buy me and i couldnt resists its call so i end up buying the book.

And lol.... this book didnt disappoint me. The price was worth-it. *giggles* who would think i will be meeting demons and angels in this book... i thought the title of the book is figurative but hey... it is interesting. The author really researched about the demons and angels and i like the author's concept. The book was full of surprises. There was the time when i thought i already guessed the main character's true identity but reading towards the end i was proven wrong. This is the type of books i like to read. Books/stories that is unpredictable.

But beware if you read this book... it may change your view about angels and demons. If u asked me if my view was changed after i read this book. my answer is no. coz i totally agree on each and every argument in the book between good and evil. lol

i totally love this book, i consider it a gothic classic novel ^_^.

its like Gaiman and pratchet's Good omens minus the humor of it ^_^

WIcked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

To be honest i noticed this book in the book store because of two reasons: One: It has a cool book cover and unusual design. second: the title itself interested me. As the title says its in an account of the life of the wicked witch of the west whose name is Elphaba. It started when she was born into a mother that came from a wealthy known politician at the eastern side of OZ and a father who is a pastor that preaches the doctrine of the unknown god. And also since birth she has been afraid of the water.

The second part of the book tells about her life in college (in school) and there she met Galinda later known as Glinda the good witch. How she had fought in research for equal rights for the Animals (which are talking animals like the animals in narnia) along side her professor in biology and her friends in school. (which was abolished when the wizard of oz came to Oz) Here in this part you can see the normal struggles between citizins and the ruling government. Racial issuies is also being tackled in this book. How people detach themselves by race and social classes. Which is common in our time, even though how much we believe that there are the human rights and equality in race, gender, social classes, etc... there are still discrimination amongist it. Here we could see that the wicked witch of the west isn't so wicked after all but just a girl who fought for equality with Humans and Animals and hoping that one day there will be equall rights with women and men as well. Her she faced the wizard of Oz for the first time and decided that she dropped herself in school and pursue her idialism. Also we learn here that the witch who got hit by dorphy's house is infact the wicked witch of the west's sister who was born armless and was favored more by thier father than Elphaba herself.

On the 3rd part of the book that a couple of years has already gone by and that Elphaba has hidden herself in the Emerald City the caplital of Oz. There she met a college friend which eventually became her lover and died on the night she want to do a job that will trigger a rebillion agianst the tyranny of the Wizard and failed the mission.

On the 4th part of the book another jump of time where Elphaba traveled to the west in the home town of her dead lover to ask for forgiveness by his widow and children. Along she came to their footsteps with her son to her lover and was welcome heartly by the widow of her dead lover and wasn't given a chance to say to her her real reason for the widow won't allow her. Along her time in the west she has been branded by the wizard as the wicked witch of the west and her sister the wicked witch of the east bec her sister has ruled their homeland behind the doctrine of the unnamed god.

In the last part of the book is pretty much like the end story of the Wizard of Oz. The wizard told dorthy to kill the wicked witch of the west in exchange that she can go home. But i think by now we all know what happened to Elphaba the wicked witch of the west. Although in this part of the book aswell that we surely know how Elphaba got her green skin. (a shocking and a irony of fate)

The book is a nice reflection of human sociaty. How people manupulate people to do thier bidding. How politics play an important role in gaining power. How people in the high sets illiminate the compition and the threat to their power. How people who got the brains and the guts to fight back are forced to be fugtives of law. no matter how we say that we treat people equally we still unconsiously discrimate people who are different from us. And indeed a proof that no person is born wicked but only the cruelty of the human sociaty breeds them.

This is the First book of Gregory Mogy "Lion among Men" isaguire's Wicked Series. out in TPB is the next sequel of the book is "SOn of the WItch" and the last of the tril now out in HB.
